Accountant — Firm Finance & Accounts
Two to five years' experience in SYSCOHADA-révisé accounting. Firm bookkeeping, monthly closes, payroll and tax filings, client-account reconciliation, reporting to the partners.
Applications close 30 October 2026.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the firm's own books to SYSCOHADA-révisé standard — general ledger entries, bank reconciliations and the monthly close — so that the partners have accurate, current accounts at all times, not only at year end.
- Prepare the firm's recurring tax and social filings: VAT, corporate income tax instalments, withholding taxes and CNPS payroll contributions, against a compliance calendar maintained jointly with the Tax & compliance pole.
- Run monthly payroll for the firm's staff and partners, including the associated CNPS and DGI declarations, and keep the underlying payroll records audit-ready.
- Reconcile the firm's client funds and escrow accounts against matter records, flagging any discrepancy immediately and maintaining the segregation of client money that the profession's ethical rules require.
- Produce the monthly management reporting the partners rely on for decisions — cash position, aged receivables, matter profitability inputs and budget-to-actual variance — in a form a non-accountant partner can act on without translation.
- Coordinate the firm's annual financial statements and liaise directly with the external auditor (commissaire aux comptes) and with the tax administration on the firm's own filings and any information requests.
- Work alongside the Executive Assistant & Office Manager on the billing cycle — reconciling recorded time and disbursements against invoices raised, so that what is billed matches what the books show.
Profile
- Diplôme de comptabilité et de gestion (DCG or equivalent) or a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; progress toward a professional accounting qualification (DECOFI, expertise comptable) is an asset, not a requirement.
- Two to five years' experience in general accounting under the SYSCOHADA-révisé framework, whether in a firm, an accounting practice or an in-house finance function.
- Working command of a standard accounting package (Sage, Ciel Compta or equivalent) and advanced Excel; comfort learning the firm's own billing and matter-tracking systems.
- Precision with reconciliations and deadlines: payroll, CNPS and DGI filings each run on a fixed calendar that does not move to accommodate a late close.
- Professional French with working English sufficient to read a foreign partner's finance query; familiarity with law-firm client-account rules is a strong advantage though not assumed.
- Discretion befitting a role with visibility over client funds, partner compensation and the firm's own financial position.
- A methodical, independent working style, balanced with the judgment to flag a discrepancy or a deadline risk to the partners before it becomes a problem rather than after.
